Rose Cottage is a 15th Century building in the heart of Castleton. Its a family-run restaurant and tearooms providing great food and homemade cakes throughout the year with its warm, cosy cottage rooms and outstanding gardens with views of Mam Tor and Peveril Castle...
Until the 1970s, the owners of this 15th century cottage had to leave the front and back doors open 24 hours a day because it was built on a right of way for coffin bearers from nearby Edale to get to Castleton cemetery. The cottage has been a tea room since 1890 so how many tea drinkers had to watch coffins go by..?
As an FYI, if you do find yourself in Castleton I highly recommend this establishment...
